I have been impressed with Facebook recently as they are updating the social network constantly (slightly frustrating) with important features to help businesses really succeed through social media. One of their most impressive updates is the ability to download your Facebook data to your computer.

The reason why this is so important is because it allows you to really understand your target market right from the beginning of your Facebook Business Page to the current day. Facebook lets you download a history of the data you’ve put on the site. It is however limited however it will still help your business and it is free to do.

To download your Facebook Data, follow the below steps;

  1. Click  at the top right of any Facebook page and select Account Settings

  2. Click General in the left-hand column

  3. Click on “Download a copy of your Facebook data”

  4. Click Start My Archive

You will then have to enter in your password and will receive the data via email when ready.

This will include a lot of information as expected like Photos, Wall Posts and notes along with Facebook Events you have been invited too and other data. This data does contain timeline information so I highly suggest you should keep it secure and be careful if sending or uploading to a third party application.

There is a great tool, completely free to get started and allows you to not only download your Facebook Data, but ALL of your other social media data! SocialSafe gives you a copy of everything said or shared including photo’s, confirmed friends in a personalised library on your computer.

Not only is SocialSafe a great tool for all social networks, it is also safe to use. As you are downloading to your computer, you have complete control over where you put the data. Think about every interaction you’ve had on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest or even LinkedIn. SocialSafe will create a whole story for you based on your social network interactions.

This tool is free for 60 days, then £4.99 for 4 social media accounts which in my opinion, is very reasonable.

Facebook is a really great network to use not just on a personal basis but from a business perspective too. Make sure you use the tools above to really understand your data on Facebook and other social networks.

You can learn more about what info is included in your download and If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can also request the removal of your data.
