Osaka, Japan – Panasonic and Walt Disney Home Entertainment have inked a deal to distribute Disney movies on Micro SD cards. But the move comes at a price as the cards will weigh in at a hefty $53 apiece and come with copy protection.

The scheme will kick off in November with the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Future titles will be released simultaneously on DVD and the new format. At present, the scheme will be restricted to the Japanese market, say the companies.

The movies will be viewable on car navigation systems and mobile phones. Panasonic already ships flat panel TVs and video cameras with SD card readers built in.

Micro SD cards are already in use in a similar application in the US, with Sansa’s Slot Music system which has yet to set the world on fire
