How things have changed. I remember my first mobile phone “Motorola” being what we all used to call “a brick” with the ability to send a text message, make a call or play Snake. We went from no internet to dial up to WiFi and Broadband. The internet is a very confusing world and some people are still struggling to grasp the concept of the evolution that is the World Wide Web.
Remember when you used to go on holiday with family or friends and you would buy disposable camera’s? That used to be the quickest and cheapest way to document your holiday via images. We are now in a time where mobile phones have a 5 megapixel camera and video with the ability to save and share images with over thousands of people in a split second. Gone are the days of saving images to a hard drive – 66% of us are now using cloud based applications like Dropbox or Picasa to hold our images and that’s after we share them on our social networks (Facebook mainly).
When it comes to our important documents, only 25% of us have them printed out and stored in our home. The rest of us have them save on our computer, in Google docs, in the cloud or as an email attachment. We now have the ability to have contracts electronically signed rather than sending them through the post. The impact of the internet has been extremely apparent.
Music. I remember when I was younger, I used to go to Woolworths and buy music tapes to play on my portable cassette player. As we all know, most record stores including the likes of HMV are no longer able to compete with iTunes or illegal downloading. We are now lucky enough to use our phones as a storage space for music as well as MP3 and iPods.
One of the most annoying things I find when watching tv is the adverts. We now have Sky+ where we can record TV shows and watch them back, fast forwarding the hard selling advertisements. As a Sky customer, you also have free access to Sky Go where you can watch live TV, via the internet on your computer, iPad or Smartphone.
The internet is ever changing and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the world wide web.
